Field Visits
Visits to villages and urban development sites in China have helped shape my research questions and deepen my understanding of the institutions I study. This page shares selected photographs and observations from these visits.
Chongqing Land Coupon Reform
I visited the Chongqing Country Land Exchange, where land coupons are traded, and three rural villages that supplied coupons, where I interviewed village officials about the reclamation of rural construction land.
Field Visits in Henan, Hunan, and Yunnan
Together with Professor Xiaodong Zhu, Qinghua Shi, Qingen Gai and fellow students, I visited villages in Henan, Hunan, and Yunnan that participate in China’s national rural fixed-point observation program. The visits helped deepen our understanding of agricultural production and rural livelihoods and informed our research on farmers’ welfare.
Urban Renewal in Shenzhen
I interviewed practitioners at an urban renewal company and visited urban villages (chengzhongcun) undergoing redevelopment in Shenzhen.
